The Impact of Religious Orientation on Parental Stress in Raising Children with Developmental Disabilities
Chung Sung-Mo

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine how the religious orientation of parents raising children with developmental disabilities affects parenting stress. A survey was used to collect data on religious orientation and parenting stress among parents of children with developmental disabilities. According to the analysis, the higher the religious orientation of parents raising children with developmental disabilities, the lower the parental stress. In particular, the intrinsic component of religious orientation is negatively related to the Parent-child dysfunctional interaction, as are the problematic characteristics of children and external circumstances. Furthermore, education level and parental suffering were positive, while age and religious duration indicated a positive relationship with Parent-child dysfunctional interaction. This study¡¯s results have implications for the establishment, operation, and program development of religious organizations, considering that external factors of religious orientation play a role in the social function of religion and intrinsic factors reduce parenting stress through psychological functions.
